What is Arangetram?
Arangetram is the debut (Arangettam - அரங்கேற்றம் in Tamil) on-stage performance of a student of Indian classical dance and music. This first performance follows years of training. Arangu means stage and Ettam means rising or climbing.
This requires utmost dedication along with facial expressions and gestures that display maturity in understanding the core meaning of the pieces. The repertoire of the entire Arangetram is called a 'Maargam', which kickstarts the learning of the intricacies of Bharatanatyam as an art form.
Sri Vidya Dance School strives to keep the tradition of the Kalakshetra Bani while helping the students go through the rigor of theory and practice and maintain the quality and cultural value of this ancient art form.

Parent Testimonials
"Dear Akhila, Joining Divya at Sri Vidya Dance School is probably the best decision that was ever made! Thank you for always willing to spend that extra time when she needed to recollect her previous classes. A teacher makes a positive influence on any kid and you are one such teacher| Emphasizing on the basics is the key when it comes to your school. Truly appreciate it. To add to this, we are very proud as parents that is ready for Arangetram soon!" - J Veluri
"Guru Smt.Akilaa is a dedicated and wonderful teacher who brings out perfection in a kids friendly manner. My daughter feels very comfortable with her. Apart from dance, we like the way she incorporates yoga, exercise and slogas which boosts the kid’s stamina to do the postures. My kid is fortunate to have Smt.Akilaa as her Guru." - Priya |
"Sri Vidya School of Dance is an excellent dance school. Akila Rao, the dance teacher, provides individual attention to every student and, is very diligent in making sure the kids learn the correct form. Class sizes are kept deliberately small to help with quality. My kid looks forward to dance class. The school also conducts periodic workshops on various skills taught by some of the most reputed dance teachers - sometimes, it's basic adavus from Kalakshetra experts, other times, it has been a dance choreography by inspiring dancers, and another time, it was a pinnal kolaatam workshop. In addition to dance, Akila also teaches the theory behind the dance and doesn’t make it just about the mechanics of movement which makes it interesting for kids and parents alike. There are also periodic meeting with parents and goal setting exercise for the kid. Overall, I would highly recommend the dance school" - P Santhanakrishnan

"When my high-schooler, Pallavi, who absolutely loves dancing, was at a crossroad and wanted to drop out from the dance school she was in, Akila came to the rescue. She took Pallavi in, no strings attached, worked within her schedule and re-kindled her love for dance.
When her sister Purvi saw the positive change in Pallavi's attitude towards learning this art form, she also joined Akila's dance school. Both my daughters enjoyed learning from Akila and eventually performed Arangetram in 2018. Akila is instrumental in inculcating a passion for dancing in both my daughters. Even today, they jump at every opportunity to perform, and she is always encouraging them. Akila works tirelessly with her students and brings out the best in them. Her dedication towards Bharatanatyam is inspiring." - Girija S |
